So, assuming the manufacturer isn't lying about the specs, it's probably a combination of crap drivers and no support by game companies...
I mean, I bet the hardware isn't horrible, it had Samsung VRAM etc, but I bet 99% of the issues with this card is their drivers.
Well, what we are learning today? All the power is useless, if the drivers are bad and not good optimized. :D
FINALLY someone doing a mic ad. WITH the mic!
Hey Dawid, the power cable at 3:12 is a 12V EPS to PCIe cable. It’s used in servers normally. Each 8 pin supplies 150w!
The intro is absolut cinema
3:14 That's PCIe to EPS. Common in compute cards like Teslas and such since EPS technically is rated for higher wattage (300W) compared to PCIe 8-pin connector (150W)
In Cyberpunk, if you look at the minicar's exhaust, there's no smoke or sparkles on the Moore Threads playthrough - but the UFOs line up suspiciously close. So I'm guessing the card is processing that particular effect (and maybe a few others) incorrectly.
it looks like driver optimization is nonexistent
Remember that Moore Threads will be doing all of this manufacturing without infringing any patents so it's all basically new in ways that means it isn't alike enough for existing mechanisms to flawlessly support the hardware. Getting driver support, let alone optimisation, is going to be a monumental task and I'm personally glad they're doing it because the status quo needs a slap. Lots of companies in china are going to have to do this because of the trade USA-China embargo wars and until now, reliance on American business and patents.
I think "that is my favorite thing, when it sucks interestingly" is a great summation of why I like your channel Dawid 😅
6:07 The connector on the card is EPS, not PCIe. It’s the same connector used for CPU power and it is rated for 300 watts while the 8-pin used in graphics cards is rated for 150. It’s common in server GPUs.
8:04 from what I remember the card only got dx12 support within the last 12 months (or was it the last 2 years?) can't remember exactly, but man that thing when it launched was somehow even worse
I love Dawid's sense of humor. I bet he'd be a blast to have a drink with.
The rumor why these suck so much was, that they are based on the massive Nvidia leak that happened years ago. Which was missing heaps of info on the 10 series and they had to fill in the gaps hence the bad drivers and insane idea draw and why they designed in such a short time-frame.
8:27 Those white sparkling artifacts strongly resemble the kind of the rendering errors you get from other graphics cards when you either overclock their VRAM beyond stability, or there's something physically wrong with the VRAM itself.
I think Lisuan makes a better representative for Chinese GPUs for now. Apparently their GPU core is in between 3060 and 4060 already with tsnc 6nm process. But my gut feeling says that it'll have the similar performance letdown because of the unripe drivers. That being said, Lisuan seem to be quite more commited to improve the drivers like when Intel first released ARC.
The funny thing is the support for SR-IOV a feature a 5090 can only dream of... 🤣
13:58 Understatement of the century, while the drivers have "improved" a lot, they're still terrible sadly
That GTA V "gameplay" was so bad. I legit moved my mouse cursor to see if it was my PC that had frozen.
