Evolution is incredible, I mean this kinda stuff just baffles me. I’m not smart enough to comprehend how a horse evolves to have an inbuilt drainage system.

Going deeper into depth they should not be completely removed. There's little wrong with just tidying them up but completely removing them opposed to just giving them a little trim won't destroy your horse's feet. Additionally some breeds like shires and Clydesdales who have very heavily feathered feet sometimes need to have their feathers fully shaved to prevent skin issues like scratches.
