Two questions this didn't answer, is how much the system costs and how much service cost
I wanted cameras at a storage lot I rent where there is no power or internet. I got a Waveform antenna, a Cudy 5G router, and slapped a t-mobile sim card from a seldom used phone in it. T-mobile still treats it like a cell phone so I basically have nearly unlimited data for no additional monthly cost!
T-Mobile "Home" Internet on a business account gets me 330Mbps in rural Georgia on my RV with an external Waveform antenna and pay $35, use well over 2 TB per month and can roam as much as I want + Starlink Mini on pause. Done
I have used long-range antennas to receive cell towers closest to me, which are eight miles away. In very hilly areas, I am lucky to get a signal under daily conditions, and sometimes none. Starlink has opened a new happy world to me.
"it's a family business" tells me everything. I have starlink, NEVER had a single problem with it, except it IS expensive.
At 2:25 if Nick hadn't run the "before" test right behind an RV (even with the slider open and adjacent to the metal RV frame) that likely causes a signal loss and reduced data transfer rate, I'd be more inclined to believe the validity of the before/after test with his recommended solution using 4 log-periodic antennas in cross-polarized orientation.

I use an aftermarket cell modem and the waveform antenna. T-Mobile 5g is cheap. But you can't always get cellular Internet. My starlink has always worked.
The more competition the better, Starlink mini came out the next week my cell company dropped the throttling of data and came out with an unlimited plan. We travel all around the country and we like having an internet connection in retirement for convenience so we have both.
I noticed that the LPDAs had much lower loaded-latency spikes during speed tests while still reaching some of the latency ranges I saw with the T-Mobile 5G modem before I connected an OpenWrt-based router behind it. After adding a router with a fast ARM CPU and installing the SQM QoS package, I was able to reduce loaded-latency spikes from 400–600 ms down to much smaller spikes of around 50 ms, while still achieving speeds up to 700 Mbps. That made a significant difference for Zoom calls and other real-time applications. Great video! I’ve been looking at several antenna options to take advantage of a cell tower that’s only 2,000 feet away and clearly visible from my property. Getting latency as low as possible is my top priority. My Starlink connection already has excellent bufferbloat ratings on Waveform buffer-bloat test right out of the box.
Hey Nick, There are two major issues with cellular that eliminates it from heavy users is going to be that blue and purple number right there, namely jitter. I have done some extensive research on reducing that on cellular and so far I have no solution. Another thing is peak service in heavily populated areas Directional antennas are cool and all, but almost no RV person I know is gonna go faff around setting up a directional antenna for their smart tv to work in their high end RV. This would change if you had some sort of automatically adjusting mimo antenna that would automatically work all the time in motion. That would be grounds for an OEM install on RV’s from the factory. In all, love to see innovation in the space and I am also a cellular/satellite user, but starlink is so much better that its not exactly a competition
It's an option only if you have a reasonable cell signal. Where I live in rural montana there is no cell phone coverage, before Starlink we had to drive 30 miles to get a reasonable cell phone signal. So Starlink for now is the only option.
I live in France about 8km from a town and found inside the house with it's 600mm thick stone walls signal was almost nothing so got an app to locate the masts around me looked up my carriers bands and put a kit together ( outside aerial, signal booster and indoor aerials) . Now have excellent reception indoors.
I just got Starlink, $50 a month locked in to get 2000% better than we had with local nothing internet, but COST is the end game. And Cellular companies have so many hidden cost, plans, deals, and mainly the eventual reason folks swap carriers like underwear - the Lies.
I know someone as a communications tech for years. 15ish yrs ago put up a TV tower in a rural area and had no internet access so added a directional mobile antenna system. Worked awesome for a few weeks had crazy low ping....then the provider limited his device on that tower down to a slow speed barely above usable
With Bezos' massive rocket explosion yesterday, that pretty much was the nail in the coffin for any satellite competition.
I was hoping to see how this does in really remote areas. Most people using satellite internet are not using it in town.
You can have the best antenna's but the weak spot is the cable. That cable must be the best one there is otherwise you lose power due to the losses in db from that cable

He runs the phone speed test in the corner of a metal RV extension. Nothing like completely blocking the signal before doing a speed test. Put your antennae in the same place if you're going to compare it, not have it out in the open.
