The most interesting in these behaviors to me is when the betrayed one checks the stone against the wall before handing it back. That means he formulated a hypothesis on the reason why he didn‘t get the grape, then he checked up on it. That is intelligence!

And this is exactly why your employer doesn’t want you discussing your salary with your coworkers.

I wonder if they did an experiment on which both monkeys are given the same reward but one monkey is given more task than the other one.

I like how it tests the rock as if to say is my currency not genuine rock.

This is so true. When I finally got a job I was so grateful to have an income I didn’t care how much, just grateful for that regular paycheck. However the moment I found out a few of the other new recruits were making more than me I suddenly felt inferior and betrayed.

As funny and relatable as the cucumber monkey’s reaction is here, to me, the really interesting part is that the grape monkey never seems to question the fairness of this setup at all

I love how it hit the rock to the wall to test if there's something wrong about that rock which caused it given the cucumber not grape.

I did my internship with a psychiatrist that had a monkey & it went everywhere with him, including the office. I did this little trick where I had a banana chip up my sleeve and I would rub my hands, clap them together and make the chip appear. I then gave it to the monkey. After doing this for a while it became an every morning ritual. When other people in the office were out of treats, the monkey understood they don't have one to give to him. Well, the first morning I showed up with no banana chip, he grabbed my hands and rubbed them together, then made my hands clap, then he checked for a banana chip. No chip. He then did the motions with his hands as if telling me to do it. I did it but still no chip. He got angry at me. He didn't understand I didn't have a chip to give him because, over time, he believed I could make one appear at will. He didn't understand I didn't have any, he just thought I was being mean. lol I used my lunch hour to go buy banana chips.

I think the most sad part was when the monkey tapped the rock on the wall. It reminded me of a human, not getting paid or treated fairly, and asking what is he doing wrong.

Love how this talk occurred 8 years ago atleast and people are still surprised when people are leaving jobs and refusing careers that aren't properly compensated
