I am a Maldivian, I have friends who are professional divers, it is out right crazy for the Italian Instructor to take the 4 divers in to a cave 60 meters deep and 200 feet long against safety regulations ... only thing I can think of it is suicidal, also, Maldivian Coast Guard should not have sent their divers in to the cave, now one rescuer has lost his life, instead today there is body recovering drones... should have waited for proper equipment... the most probable cause is a combination of oxygen poisoning due to depth, disorientation and panic ...
Lets not forget the maldivian diver rescuer who lost his life trying to search for them

Just now we have been informed that one of our surgent at the national defense force of the Maldives lost his life while working in this high risk recovery operation! Very sad 😢
Finning techniques are taught at the most basic cave training. a properly trained cave diver would not succumb to even two of the suggested scenarios. Lack of training ironically not mentioned here is the no.1 cause of cave diving accidents
Going into a cave with scuba gear and no guidelines is just madness. It only takes one silt-pig and you are blind. Some silt can be so bad you couldn’t even see a compass in front of your mask.
One Search and Rescue operation diver from Maldives Defence Force die just Now . It's extremly dangerous and Challenging operation in such a high depth, even for the most experience divers. So far body of one Italian tourist recovered. This particular cave have three chambers .it 's more than 200 feet cave in about 60 metre depth , He got trouble in last chamber.
Maybe a guide rope would have been a good idea. Cave drivers have a guide rope when Cave diving in Cave on land.

I cave dived only once. We stayed very close to the entrance. Two separate diving instructors were monitoring just outside (strictly watching and helping- ready to go in an accident. We spent maybe 4- 5 minutes in the shallow cave close to the entrance and then that was that. 90% of the meeting before the dive was how to avoid kicking up sediment. We practiced and practiced before the dive. We also spray painted our fins pink to not get separated from the group as other divers were also in the area. So sad.

I’m 50 years old with over 800 logged dives. I find it hard to believe that a 20 year old could be qualified for a 60m cave dive of this nature. Diving a cave at this depth is next level tech diving. It’s not your “holiday” scuba dive excursion. Very few 20 year olds would qualify.

I suspect one diver had a problem. Either panicked, medical event or equipment failure. Silt out ensues, more panick, more silt out. Also a lack of planning in case of a problem. RIP.
Why people put in risk their lives that way?????
Seems like there was no guide line in the cave. Even a relative short one at 250m should have it, especially with rec. divers/tourists ! All 5 died, the whole dive group, which is very unusual. Maybe the gas was polluted ? They only had one tank each acc. to the news, which is very risky ! The depth of 60m and the cave diving is advanced diving, and requires special training and certification. Diving can be very unforgiving when safety is discarded !
I understand the adventurous spirit, but I also understand and respect human limitations. Engaging in these extreme activcities, sadly carries with it the imperfect inclination to push past boundaries. Thanks for covering this very sad event. Be careful out there, everyone.
If people decide to cave dive and they die, no one should risk their life to recover their bodies, no matter how professional or experienced the rescue divers are. Leave them there. They took the risk to go there and no one should have to die or risk their life to go for their remains.
