Why are we deciding between animal trafficking and feeding the hungry when there's 80yr olds napping in congress and taking home $85 an hour? Just take their paychecks they won't notice

There is an element of this sort of smuggling which I didn't see in the clip provided, but adds some significant weight to the prosecution of the crime. The introduction of non-native species to an environment. While a red panda isn't going to harm the environment in any meaningful way, there is a market in illegal insects - animals that have the potential to be vastly more harmful to US agriculture. It's short sighted to bust a tobacco smuggler, or possibly the prosecutorial equivalent of "pork" - that is to say, pandering to a local electorate. To the farmers in, say, South Carolina, busting an illegal tobacco smuggler plays well. But the wrong bug introduced to an environment where it has no natural predators? Entire states might see their farming industry colapse. So signaling that you're willing to prosecute any animal smugglers to the extent of the law, it's warm and fuzzy when you rescue cute animals, but it sets a precedent, it makes other kinds of smuggling that much more risky.

There needs to be harsher laws for animal trafficking and animal abuse. They don't get nearly enough time they should get.

Why do we automatically set parameters ? Either feed the poor or save an endangered animal ...NO, WE CAN DO BOTH AND SHOULD DO BOTH.

The people that pretend you can only save the environment OR feed children are the same people that will do neither.

One of the worst things humanity does is discussing who to save first and not realizing that we could save everybody. We can, science says so. We just decide not to
