#storiesthatmatter #documentary #pavbhaji #mumbai What dish makes a billionaire and a daily wage laborer share the exact same street corner? Discover the unseen history of Mumbai’s most iconic street food: Pav Bhaji. This rich, spicy, and deeply satisfying Maharashtrian dish isn't just a local favorite; it is the ultimate symbol of authentic Mumbai street food culture. Explore how a quick, affordable meal born during the 1860s American Civil War to feed exhausted Indian textile mill workers on their late-night shifts evolved into the beating heart of a bustling metropolis. In this cinematic Indian street food documentary, we uncover the culinary history of India by taking you behind the steaming iron tawas of two legendary food institutions. We explore how a simple worker's meal adapted to the relentless pace of the city, ultimately shaping what millions now consider the best Pav Bhaji in Mumbai. Witness the strict military discipline and the inspiring, fearless female-led frontline established by disabled ex-serviceman Appa Dandekar at Cannon Pav Bhaji near CST station. We then contrast this fast-paced energy with the slow, Amul butter indulgence found in Sardar Pav Bhaji. Better than cnn bbc and nat geo documentaries 😊 Good job team 👏
Pavi Bhaji and Vada Pav are in the veins of every Mumbaikar. I love it.
Cannon is a great place for pav bhaji. I say it because it is a venture of a fellow soldier. Here comes the but, the back story of pau bhaji is not correct. It wasn't there from 1860, that was vada pav. Pav Bhaji was a creation of a small shop near Vile parle what was called Shivsagar in the 1970s before Cannon opened, which has turned into a veg hotel now. I have been eating Pav Bhaji from 1989 and that is what we have been hearing. I might be wrong, but that was my 2-bit to add here. Great video guys, keep doing the good work. Cheers
Once upon a time Canon was a place to go. The pricing was great. However over time price have moved drastically and become an expensive place and quality is not as great as it used to be. Similar is the case with Sardar pav bhaji. A great place initially with competitive pricing is now a dull cousin of itself. Prices have increased manifold out of reach of common man. It provides small portion of bhaji. The only USP of Sardar pav bhaji is the amount of butter they serve. There are many great pav bhaji places across Mumbai. Sukh Sagar Amar are the few names that I can recall immediately.
That gas flame shot shot on the music rising was so good
Sardar serves a plate of butter with a hint of bhaji !!
Pav Bhaji , Vada Pav , Misal , Thalipeeth , Puran Poli are some iconic lip smacking delicacies of Maharashtra 😋😋😋
Sardar Pavbhaji is owned by a Muslim just FYI. It should have been mentioned exclusively because it matters to a majority of people who would try these stalls. The whole narrative was built around the emotional story of Cannon Pav Bhaji and Sardar was advertised as a premium spot in the middle without any mention of its owners, recipes, or history.
VadaPav is the essential snack of Mumbai Life...PavBhaji is the secondary which essentially made for the cotton mill workers in 70s. This is fact known to the every Mumbaikar born and brought up in 60s, 70s, 80s.
Great content as usual... The videography, editing all on point
I ate 30years before and I still remember the taste.
I remember having Pav bhaji twice at Canon in a time period of 2-3 years . It was so bad and below average. Then comes sardaar very very hyped and a punjabi touch to Pav Bhaji which never met Mumbai/Maharashra's Standards.
Your videos are really good but can you please not use AI for generating the voice over script. It makes it nearly unwatchable and soulless, write in your own style, it might not be perfect but it will be human.
a very polished content & narrative. Well done!!
jai hind to this great human from this veteran
8:52 agar uske yaha kaam karne vale tik kar rahte h, vo aadmi bada. Always take care your employees mentally and financially. Strong Bond Jaruri h.❤
Pav bhaji was started by 2 Rajasthani brothers in the late 60s in Gulalwadi on a handcart.
Canon taste is homely
I don't think anyone outside Mumbai and Navi Mumbai eats paav bhaji that much. I have travelled to tier 3 cities and rural towns of Maharashtra people mostly prefer vada paav or misal paav, thali pith or zunka bhakar.
PAV Bhaji. From 1980 To 2000 is Very Hyjenic, Healthy And. TestFull,...After 2000 from last 26. Years All HOTELS.,RESTAURANTS, Distroy. PAV BHAJI TEST, FOR MAXIMIZATION OF PROFITS ALL RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS PREPAIRED PAVBHAJI. FROM COLD STORAGE VEGETABLES AND NOT FROM FRESH VEGETABLES SECONDLY INSTED OF AMUL BUTTER ALL RESTAURANTS AND HOTELS USE ANOTHER CHEAP QUALITY BITTER FOR MAXIMIZATION OF PROFIT , THEREFORE PAVBHAJI BECOMES BOTTOM QUALITY SNAKS IN MUMBAI..... MUMBAI TOP SNAKS ARE. MISALPAV, VADAPAV, THALIPITH, AND ZUNKA BHAKAR . THESE 4 ARE TOP 4 SNAKS IN MUMBAI FROM LAST 100 YEARS.
