As a little boy I used to fall asleep on a Sunday afternoon listening toy grandad snoring and watching David. They would both make me feel safe. Now fourty years later here David is doing it again. I love this man and have a lot to thank him for.

That fish at 31:32 just casually blowing one of the best “smoke rings” you can make was absolutely incredible.
I was in the Philippines with my family 2 years ago. We saw the glowing bacteria in the water when we were walking along the beach night The fish would eat the bacteria. Then we could see it glowing in the fish as they zoomed around. We also held it in our hands. Happy birthday David Attenborough.

This video literally made me cry because of how beautiful this planet is and how there is so much to be discovered. I want to be a botanist and do research and learn about this planet. I have loved David Attenborough since I was a kid. This video has just further cemented how badly I want to do research and how much there is in store for the future. Happy late birthday David!

Once again, nature never ceases to surprise us in so many ways and who better to show this world than Sir David Attenborough? It is astonishing how this man, who dedicated his entire life to the natural planet, has reached 100 years old today. There are many documentarians and biologists out there that make discoveries every day but there was none like him who has enticed our curiosity into the living world of Earth in all of its glory. Bioluminescence is one of the most fascinating concepts of life that even now, we still barely get the full sense of the scope. Speaking of which, people would wonder of how certain individuals could reach to this milestone. In Attenborough’s case, some would say that he eats to live instead of living to eat; others will claim that he spends his time taking care of his body through physical activity. While there’s no denying that he clearly could do both of those things since his entire purpose is to showcase all of this, I like to believe that it is his love for the planet and all living things that dwell upon it is what kept him going for so many years. With his passion, he opened my eyes to something that most people never get to see and he still does to this day. May his legacy endure for all eternity. 🌎🌋🎇

When I was growing up on the north shore of Oahu there were certain times of the year that we could go swimming at night and disturb bioluminescent plankton that would make the water glow green. There were a couple times they were so thick that they'd actually stick to us but not anything like that Australia thing.
