Its a legend among Open source free software
Plus that extra sound boost option is hella useful
The best thing about vlc is the ability to play even a corrupted file. My only memory of my grandad is a corrupted .mov file, and vlc doesn't disappoint me even if it only plays a small part of the whole video
My routine every time I buy a new computer: 1) Set Firefox as default browser 2) Install VLC 3) Mod the new windows graphic interface
VLC is absolutely amazing!! That and WinRar are goated
Forget video content, it can play audio as well show photos. Many times if file extension of a file is missing and I am not sure whether it is a audio, video or photo, I just open it with VLC and boom now I know what the file was. Not to mention it also plays even corrupted files so we can at least see bits and pieces of the file to know what the contents were, so if possible we can get them from other sources back.
VLC is an absolute Legend
If you speak French, you can find very interesting interviews of the founder and manager of the software.
There is also a legal aspect to it. Since VLC foundation is from France they are able to avoid some video format patents that Microsoft can't. And that's why to visualize some format on the windows media player you have to go to the windows store and pay some money while in VLC it's already included
It really is the GOAT. Always plays whatever video you ask of it.
Starting over from scratch is underrated. Sometimes it's the best solution to clean up messes or change project directions, or programming techniques.
VLC doesn’t exist without ffmpeg. YouTube doesn’t exist without ffmpeg.
My default software: - Firefox for Websites - Thunderbird for E-Mails - VLC for Video and Audio - Okular for PDF and EPUB (E-Books) - Krita for painting and photo editing - KdenLive for Video editing - Ventoy for bootable drives
VLC is an absolute legend. You can compile it to run even in a piece of stone as a target and it will work. You can have the most corrupted video file ever. It will play you a part of it. Legend certified OSS.
VLC is legitimately impressive. it brute forced its way through old, corrupted VHS home video tapes that my grandfather had. It can and will play *anything*
I grew up with VLC so I always took its ability to play any format for granted
VLC's Christmas hat in the tray is always cute.
I miss Media Player Classic..... 😅 It was supper light
The fact that it seems to play any kind of video format that exists is what got me to use VLC (That and being free lol)
I wish VLC had the scrubbing speed of QuickTime. QuickTime shows more frames when scrolling through a video.
