this is more of a logic question than an algebra problem (i doubt the contestant is given a pen and paper anyway). you need to realize that no matter how many left handed people there are it’s always only 1 right handed person. 49/50 gives you 98%

Even simpler. You have 1 right handed person. How many people need to leave for this one person to make out 2% of the room. Simply half the room.

99 % are left handed that is 99 people So right handed - 1 person and that constitutes 2% if we want to make left handed people 98% In that scenario 49 left-handed people make the percentage 98. 99-49 =50

Or just mental math it in 2 seconds. Final needs to be 98% immediately recognize final % is even so divide it by 2 to get 49. 99 are left handed, 50 need to leave to get to 49/50 or 98%.

You say it’s easy but it took you longer than the time allowed in the tv show. And that’s not including the time you took to figure out your approach before you hit record.

I saw this one short earlier abt a guy asking why a potato with 99% water loses half of its weight when it becomes 98% of water.

I love how some people figure this Math, via the Arithmetic, while others figure it using Comprehensive Math...

... it's much easier to phrase the question as "how many people do you need in a room, for the 1 right handed person to make up 2% of the room"

For those who thought it was 1, I thought that too. Until I realised, the total number of people is also reduced by 1 everytime you take 1 left handed freek away.
