When someone shows you who they are, believe them 🗣️
Be careful what you tolerate. You're teaching people how to treat you.
My favorite quote my brother showed me, "you teach people how to treat you by what you allow, disallow and what you reinforce."
I'm now 74 years old and I can't believe how much abuse I allowed people to hurt me with....now I don't tolerate anything... better late than never 💪💪💪💪
100% true. Trust people when they show you who they are, not who you want them to be.
What he's saying is that repeated negative patterns of disrespectful behavior may be indicators of a bad character & are RED FLAGS. Sometimes, if the behavior cannot be rectified, it may be better to cut ties.
He slapped me for the first time and it was hard. I was shocked. I immediately broke up with him bc I knew that wasn’t going to be just that once. He apologized a lot& tried to convince me it was a fluke, begged me to come back but my instincts said no,no way, girl run,run away& don’t ever look back.
My dad told me this when I was 12 years old: "You teach people how to treat you." Profound and absolutely true.
"When someone show you who they are, believe them the first time." - Maya Angelou ❤
I follow the old saying. " Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time "
If people treat you badly, it reveals that you come across as too kindly and easy-going. Nowadays, if a person is disrespectful to me, I walk away. Forever. No second chances. I am done with abusive behaviour, especially from men. Good luck out there, friends. And, remember: it's better to be alone than be in bad company.
My dad always says when someone shows their true face, never forget it.
This is why it’s important to draw boundaries…especially with family.
Disrespect is designed to tear you further & further down!
Always good to ask “well if you didn’t mean it, then who did?” That throws them off
Yep, as the saying goes, when someone SHOWS you who they are , BELIEVE THEM!!
Anyone can have a bad moment. It's the people who don't say they are sorry who have the real issues.
Behavior is a form of communication
My 20 y/o child who is the nicest person in the world pointed this out to me. She told me I have no boundaries despite speaking my mind and standing up for myself because I'll try to uplift and fix people or myself more to try to gain peace instead of just leaving permanently. It put a lot of things into perspective for me.
In the end , it's always ourselves we learn about...
