Limb regeneration is common in animals like axolotls and other amphibians, but it doesn't occur in mammals like mice and humans. Michael Levin (Tufts University) explains his early experiments in creating biodomes, which are wearable bioreactors that stimulate limb growth. The biodomes contain a gel with medicines inside to promote regrowth. Surprisingly, even the negative control, without any medicine, stimulated some level of regeneration in adult frogs. Do you think this medical technology can ever develop into something helpful for healing wounds and treating amputees? #biology #axolotl #regeneration #mouse

This is the only kind of crazy talk that should be allowed on the internet.
Humans have a repressed gene that could allow us to regenerate, but evolution favoured scarring. It’s still there though, which is why babies can regrow their fingertips and certain organs like the liver regenerate over time.
This is exactly how the backstory of Spider-Man’s villain The Lizard started.

It's not a limitation that we cannot grow limbs but it's a problem that we don't mess up that it creates cancerous cells.

I see that the gel regrowth from The Expanse will be an actual thing way before we start living on Mars. That's some positive news :)
This would be huge even if it couldn't regrow a limb entirely, it could still help prosthetics become simpler and cheaper by regrowing up to the joints, knees and elbows.

This is how you get giant lizards living in the sewers.
I had a rat with 2 legs and 1 arm and she was just precious. I was amazed to see what she was capable of. Also, her 4-limbed sister helped her manipulate objects. So sweet.
This is the absolute pinnacle of the idea of complexity seeking higher complexity as an emergent, highly focused neural field excitation, leading to a more complex field configuration.

Frogs are far different than mice. The bio regenerative abilities of amphibians are well documented.
