This is basically fracking but "not interested on fosil fuels" this still has at least 3 problems. 1. It can increase seismic /volcanic activity. 2. If can poison underground water sources with heavy metals and other elements on the rocks. (Less likely than the certainty of fracking but still likely) 3. The continious use will redice the local magma temperature over time reducing the max output. Most of this is from Icelands geothermal plants reaserch.

I enjoy the fact that we couldn’t just use the word “fracking.” Cuz… this is just how fracking works but the aim is water and not oil. I’m assuming the willingness for data centers to pay a premium for power is why this is suddenly economical.

Iceland has been doing this for many decades. They grow bananas, on Iceland, in greenhouses heated by geothermal. The energy is so cheap and abundant that millions of tons of aluminium ore is often shipped from Australia to Iceland to be smelted, because the process is so energy intensive. The cheaper costs of energy justifies the shipping costs several times over.
