Why can’t a robot just click “I’m not a robot”? This tech is called reCAPTCHA, and robots are pretty good at them now! But it’s not about checking a box! It’s actually tracking other things, like how you move your mouse as you go to check the box. These tests are about what makes humans… human! Robots taking notes rn
you forgot to talk about how robots teleport the mouse around too
If I remember correctly, some of the capta stop helps train AI also. There’s a reason we were seeing almost exclusively traffic testing for years
I see... So, program the robot to stall and move around first 🤔
The only thing that might one day still distinguish humans from machines is our inefficiency.
"Robots are pretty good at those ones" thats because those images were there to get us to train their image recognition software.
An IT professional taught me about this years ago, whenever I see the checkbox I move and jiggle my mouse around it and it always passes 90% of the time.
Also we can detect bots by their profile picture 😂
As a robot thanks for this information.
The picture one is the bane of my existence. The system at work has this for logging on to certain things and no matter how many times you choose correctly it just resets and asks you to pick all the whatever again and again and again
How is this test performed on touchscreens?
You can't tell me that early captchas weren't designed to train AI. It would be like "click all the bicycles" but if you left one that could have confused AI unclicked you could still successfully complete it.
cause they can't program the robot to move the cursor in a random line? lolz
So they know we're humans because we're so bad at aiming that we can't move a mouse in a straight line.
Let's not skip over the fact that capcha is just a data harvesting tool. They don't stop bots by any significant margin, it's literally just a way to scrape your browser for data to sell.
That was accurate a few years ago. Now bots can also emulate the erratic movement of the mouse. Libraries like puppeteer can do that
That’s actually really interesting!
new challenge unlocked: pretend to be a bot on a captcha
So now A.I will simulate human mouse movement.
