My exact problem with "modern" desks. Me and my fiance's set ups are simple: basically plastic tables for our PCs. It's plenty of space. But the problem is: no storage! I ended up getting some extra office drawers and it ALMOST fits. I use the drawers as extra storage for my cups since it's shorter than the table, it's basically an L-shaped desk. This project seems so amazing for these kinds of problems.
We need a Make with Miles x Morley Kert collab build. Both of your styles are similar but different enough that you could complement each other to make an incredible piece of furniture
Get a MUCH larger black desk mat to put your keyboard and mouse on. It will make the keyboard sound much better by helping dampen the harsh vibrations/reverberations from being in direct contact with the wood desk, and it will also let you significantly LOWER the DPI on your mouse which makes speed and accuracy with the mouse far more possibly and comfortable (I know you're used to a tiny laptop trackpad, but trust me the muscle memory of bigger movements and ability to move quickly and stop exactly on what you want makes work and navigating UIs so much faster once you're used to it). I would have also recommended a much larger (or ultrawide, basically the same but only in the width) monitor, but the construction of the desk likely limits that... at least you have the laptop for a second screen.

23:20 it doesn’t change if the copper pads are separated, but the controller sends a string of bytes out, then the first LED takes the string from DIN, removes the first byte and sends it out to DOUT to the next LED and so on, until the string is empty and the LEDs are finished. It didn’t work before because you wired multiple LEDs to the same DOUT, so they were “stealing” data from each other
