So, it's a glorified UPS system. They've definitely needed an upgrade for years. APC and others got them to the point where they can send out alerts for voltage fluctuations and outages, and a web interface for setup and event tracking; then they pretty much gave up.

1600 bucks is a bit expensive. Lidl in Gernany were selling a 2kwh plug-in battery to be used with balcony solar for 299 euro. Not as polished a product but does the job of softening the demand curve.
The unit looks very slick but that price has to come down. For that same price, a renter could purchase the Jackery 3000 which has 3072 Wh (nearly double) AND it comes with 2 two 200w solar panels for the balcony for $1600. I like the idea and love the push towards more renewable energy. But it needs to become more affordable.
The Pila looks interesting, but it seems quite expensive given the currently available alternatives (the admittedly less aesthetically pleasing power stations you referred to the video). For most folks, a touchscreen, fancy graphs/data tracking, wireless connectivity, and sleek form factor likely aren't worth the price.
This battery costs TWICE what is currently on the market with the same capabilities. It looks nice, but I'm not seeing any other value add here.

I have 3 small UPS batteries in my home for emergency power outages. I really like this new option except for the cost. The dollar per KW is just too high at the moment. $999 per unit is probably my pain threshhold and it would be good if someone would come up with a 220VAC with high hit amp use for A/C and appliance backup.
EcoFlow does basically everything you are asking…and doesn’t need a permit to install, and does your whole home, not just a few devices. Its portable. It’s powerful, and it does everything a tesla powerwall does.
Almost a 1000$ per kWh is sadly just highway robbery, considering raw cells price is at most 100$/kWh. Here in Germany as an enduser you can get similar systems with 5kWh for around 1000€ (limited to max 800W its even somewhat legal!)

12:00 20ms is outside the guaranteed threshold for computers/servers to stay online during the cutover. I won't be using anything that takes more than 10-15ms because I've been burned enough times.

Here in Europe you buy a 5kWh battery online, it's at your door in 3 days max, you plug it in, synch it with the P1 dongle plugged into the smart meter and it automatically draws all excess electricity from your solar. And in the evening it exports continuously up to 800W, this time matching your consumption. You can cover your base load, but also an AC in Eco mode throughout the night with those 5kWh. In combination with plug in solar panels and a dynamic tariff, it works super well
We use it a lot in Europe (not UK, as regulation just got updated for it) and this pila may have tough time with the compétition from Ecoflow steam/stream gen2, Zendure solar flow and new solar flow pro .. - we use it for backup in case of power failure with a minimum percentage reserved to it, and you can protect your internet, fridge and others offices if necessary - you got the off peak rate charging, discharging during peak hours on the local AC network using smart plugs or smart meter and even use real time market price to optimise even further the revenues - integrated solar inverter to allow to to store electricity from your balcony solar system, and use it later or even sell it now ! And this for 250 euros per kWh of storage including solar inverter capability embedded, or up to 320 euros per kWh for ecoflow (higher end design) So, the pila system at nearly 1500 for 1.6 kWh or nearly 940 USD per kWh is really neither economical for a renter neither logic as you buy maybe something more design, but having to pay for a touchscreen that you use maybe one time per year is not cost efficient So as much as I personally enjoy to watch the video and enjoy the design, I feel sorry for the people who need it the most : the one who can maybe afford maybe 350 usd/kWh are the one who can over the span of maybe 3-4 year get money in their pocket and have protection in case of emergency Those equipments really answer a market, but make it niche products when what is necessary is mass market -reduction accessible to everybody to allow to get the best out of cheaply produced electricity during the day (wind and solar) and reduce dependencies on large systems (like gas, biomass …) by night
If they can use all function with never connecting to the internet... I'd consider it. Never trust a company to do the right thing. Never connect 'smart' devices to the internet directly.
