For decades, Microsoft controlled PC gaming. If you wanted to play, you used Windows. It wasn't just the dominant operating system, it was the platform that gaming was built around. Developers optimized for it, gamers relied on it, and competitors struggled to challenge it. But something has changed. While Microsoft focused on subscriptions, AI features, cloud services, and ecosystem lock-in, Valve spent years working on a completely different vision. A future where PC gaming no longer depends on Windows at all. It started with SteamOS. Then came Proton, a compatibility layer many experts believed would never be good enough to replace Windows gaming. Finally, the Steam Deck arrived and proved something shocking. Millions of PC games could run on Linux with little or no effort from players. What looked like a niche experiment quickly became a serious threat to Microsoft's dominance. This isn't just a story about a handheld gaming device., it's about platform control. It's about who owns the future of PC gaming, and it's about whether gamers will continue accepting an operating system increasingly filled with telemetry, subscriptions, ads, and AI features, or choose a different path. Valve isn't trying to beat Microsoft in the console market, it's trying to make Windows optional. And for the first time in decades, that goal doesn't look impossible. 00:44 - The Glass House 02:42 - The Performance Tax 04:32 - The Anti Cheat Illusion 06:04 - The Hardware Anomaly 08:36 - Project K2 11:19 - The Silent Build 13:02 - The Trap Closes 14:40 - The Sovereign OS Narrated by: Josh Risser 🔔 Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! 🔔 SUGGEST A TOPIC: https://bit.ly/suggest-an-infographics-video 💬 Come chat with me: https://discord.gg/theinfoshow 🔖 MY SOCIAL PAGES TikTok ► https://www.tiktok.com/@theinfographicsshow Facebook ► https://www.facebook.com/TheInfographicsShow 📝 SOURCES: https://pastebin.com/ULAXk7Q1 All videos are based on publicly available information unless otherwise noted.

Micro slop is veeeery dark
The only reason I'm still stuck to Windows is my Nvidia GPU and overall game compatibility. If Microsoft doesn't get its shit together, SteamOS is the way to go
Look how angry that penguin really looks. It's ready for war, it always was.
i Ditched microslop two years ago, and it was best decision i made
"You will own nothing and you will be happy."
Im going back to pen and paper
0:34 It's sad that creators feel that it is necessary to show their recording process just to avoid negative comments about that their content may be AI.
Windows 11 has been a great advertisement for Linux. Ive distro hopped to Ubuntu and then CachyOS and will not go back to Windows for gaming or general day to day stuff
My days of Windows 11 are coming to an end. Linux here I come.
Btw for anyone that has a Nvidia GPU it was recently announced that Valve is working closely with Nvidia to get Steam OS to work on Linux. Having an Nvidia GPU and switching can really be a pain, but soon it hopefully won't.
All thanks to the work done around Proton. My main PC is running Kubuntu with a 9800X3D CPU, 9070 XT GPU... I play MMOs like FFXIV, Cyberpunk 2077 with mods, you name it. I have ZERO reason to go back to Microslop
No telemetry in Linux Mint. It just runs what you want it to run and it's smooth as hell.
Infographics farming microslop hate really hard xD
There is only one prime conflict among humanity, the struggle between the few that have power, and the many that don't. Every other conflict helps to distract the powerless from uniting against the powerful.
"Honestly expected it to either be a blue screen or a completed 12-hour update cycle. Great experiment!"
I'm still using windows 10....
We stopped owning our computers the moment MicroSlop Windows changed the Desktop app "My Computer" to "This PC".
It does belong to me. Because I'm on Linux 👍🏻
Please steam, you are so close. If you can make the windows apps be easily translated through steamos like natively, the internet is yours.
Installed Bazzite and now my aging PC feels like a brand new machine. Crazy
