That doesn't even look like thermal pads, looks more like blue tack to me.

That pcb isnt wouldnt break from overtightening. 1070s 1080s without metal backplayes all have a crescent curve to them and work fine 😂😂😂😂

Nicely done.

the top layer has no circuits in it. small chipping on corners or edges often don't have any negative effect if the angles are not too shallow, back in the day when AMD Athlon chips were open die, mine had it's long side edge completely chipped off and it ran just fine

Honestly it looks like the type of situation when I last sent my assignment lmao

Sure that crack won't cause problem's with the chip down the road with heat cycling?

Thats not the chip cracked, thats the lid to the chip

The chip having its corner chipped would be fine. The is just the external protective layer that also acts as a heat spreader. Biggest damage it probably done is reduce cooling efficiency by a small margin

I really like your videos. But maybe in the horizontal format. That be great

How often do you need to change the thermal pads though?

That little chip would’ve never caused a full failure of the actual components inside.

I remember the old AMD Athlon days with exposed CPU dies. You could crack the CPU just installing the cooler. Copper or aluminium shims were a thing to prevent cracking it. Good times
