in urban planning there is this concept called the water energy nexus. it takes water to produce electricity, and water takes electricity to transport clean and manage. if electricity gets more expensive, water gets more expensive.

Look, just because we already have a dozen bandits in the area, that doesn't mean it's okay that a thirteenth bandit just entered the area.
Its not just water.... Its the sound ( I can only imagine that 27/7 hum and trying to go to sleep) and energy used that drives up costs for local residents.

The primary difference between AI and Nuclear Plants is one creates long term jobs, energy, and community wealth, while one uses up energy to provide a worthless product, which extracts wealth from the community.
Also. The idea that the 23 hiroshimas worth of heat isnt that much because the sun hitting the same area would be 50 of them is a farce. The heat from the sun is still going to hit the area. That means that the data center will increase the heat to that area by nearly 50% thats a substantial increase. Especially because it will be a constant thing.

The problem is WHERE the data centers are being built. In areas that likely can't or shouldn't handle the new big push for a demand. It screws over people who don't want or need this problem.

That 1.2% to 1.8% jump is a jump from 3.2 million affected adults to 4.8 million. Id say that over a million more humans suffering from an illness because of the choices of corporations would in fact be a big deal.
The problems with datacenters are the heavy localized pollution (air water noise), the shifting of electricity payments, and the resulting displacement of labor. Only possible by government corruption by corporations.
It was good to point out the issue with your graph of national water use - that large data centers have their negative side effects focused locally. A large data center can completely disrupt the water table of a local community. The best comparison here is to a golf course, where the runoff of fertilizer and pesticide destroys nearby bodies of water.
It makes me so angry billionaires are ruining our lives for profit and they act like it's a good thing.
