They are used by 'tow' companies to extort money from people. Its perfectly legal to take it off since its private property and not subject to police intervention. Most of these people are scammers and dont have any right to boot your vehicle.

Have you done a story on the french and super glue? Basically the french police start using the boots on cars and every french person carried super glue and would glue up the lock where the key went, the police would have to destroy the boot to get it off cars and it got so expensive it wasn't worth using so people power won and the boot is no longer used on France

A local manufacturing company near me used these things in their employee parking lots for literally like a month and a half. They had so many complaints, broken devices, and lawsuit threats that they sh*tcanned the whole program in under two months and told the company “nevermind”.

Since I drive a Jeep that's over 30 years old, I would simply fold the windshield down in this scenario. It's 100% legal to drive with the windshield down where I live.
