There's a homebrew virtual boy emulator for the 3DS and I can confirm, the 3DS indeed would have been the perfect console to rerelease Virtual Boy games on.

I forget if I ever shared this update, but the Nintendo America web store is now also offering the stand for the Virtual Boy as a separate purchase, as well as the little eye shade thing, but I forget if that one works for the original system. Still a shame these pieces aren't available separately on the Australian shop.
It must've been so hard to come up with concepts for games that utilized stereoscopic 3D for a console that couldn't actually run proper 3D games, Vertical Force is genius.

I fixed the ribbon cables on one of these about 10 years ago using a heat gun and pressing down on it as hard as I could. It worked at least for a couple months before I sold it, but I'd be shocked if it didn't need repair again by now.
