Magnets due effect the compass app but the phone knows how to filter it out(magnetometer) and also uses gyro and accelerometer

My daughter had 31 rounds of Proton therapy - which is highly targeted radiation treatment - in her skull. After it'd finished, I put my phone (compass) on her head. It went a little haywire.

The magnet does actually desync the compass in some other phones but it usually asks you to recalibrate doing a hand gesture
