I believe it's a recording of a canon A-1/AE-1 with shutter squeak, which happens when the oil dries up after decades, mine sounded exactly like that before I oiled it.

My A1 sounds like that. Is just the lack of oil that make that sound

An old AE-1 sometimes sound like this because of wear and tear regardless of the shutter speed. In Germany we call it "Husten" (coughing). Source: my AE-1

Tbh I think it's because of the recording technology back then. It really almost matched with the AE-1 with slower shutter speed but higher pitch.

I think they have played with the sound a little because the Ae-1 W is actually sounding close, the distance is just some sound manipulation.

The screeching sound happens on most 'A series' (A1, AE-1 Program, etc) 80's Canon SLRs specifically when the mirror lift mechanism is dried out from lube/oil, and it progressively sounds worse if you don't send it to maintenance or oil it yourself, it's actually a design flaw and the sound is slightly different between units. My guess is that the sound designer probably recorded it and sped/pitched the recording up because the screech never reached that high of a pitch. However... there's another iconic camera shutter sound recording that did indeed come from a camera paired up with a power winder that's running low on battery (sounds very similar to the one shown in this video), and it has been used in mainstream media ever since, a close example is GTA SA's camera sound. I actually doubt what the sound designer said on that blog because the screech timbre sounds muuch closer to the low battery power winder but sped/pitched up, it could even be a layered sound, or even an entirely different camera with its own screeching sound contrary to what the internet people claim
