I would like to once again thank Microslop for creating such amazing advertisement for Linux!
With the Ctrl+V in Linux terminals, by default I believe that is a “quoted-insert” which interprets whatever comes next as literal bytes/keycodes. A holdover from the Unix days. But lovely thing is that can be overridden in the terminal emulator settings! Look up how to change keybinds for your terminal, and bind ctrl v to paste. I know some who also bind ctrl c to copy and use a different key for interrupts.
Please make a tutorial on how to change to Linux most painlessly. My life is a mess and full of changes right now and learning new stuff simply just goes straight out of another ear. If I could follow the most painless tutorial on one pc while changing the other, I would immensely appreciate that. Then I would watch the video again with my other pc and do it all again with the other pc.
It took me a long second to realize that the person behind Luke was just his reflection 😅😂
in kde plasma, you can turn off middle-click paste in settings -> general behaviour. you can also turn on a system wide middle-click scroll in the mouse settings if you want
16:46 - For anyone curious, the "extra crap" are control characters and they can actually be read by the terminal application currently running so that you can make it react to Ctrl+whatever to do custom stuff. You can have a full UI in the terminal. The problem with having a UI inside of another UI is that there will be keybinding conflicts. To de-conflict this situation, at least for the ultra-common pasting action, Ctrl+Shift+V was invented so that Ctrl+V is still available for the program you run INSIDE the terminal.
1 full week on cachyos for me, loving it so far
Thanks for dedicated WAN Show channel

"Free as in Beer" is an old open source / Linux community quote which means software is free but not open source. Used vs "Free as in Speech" which means the software also open source.
16:21 ctrl+c stops something in the terminal, on my terminal you can click shift+ctrl+c/v to copy paste.
The linux middle click to paste is hardcoded into x11 (a display server protocol, you don’t really have to know what this is). Over the last 5 years most of the desktop environments have been moving to wayland (a new display server protocol) which now makes it possible to remap the middle click. Most stuff now maps it to autoscroll.
I saw an advert on reddit saying all cables back in stock and then the only cable sold out is the length I want 😢
Wan show back to my weekly rotation
18:30 Here I am watching on MacOS, where the standard OS level shortcuts for copy and paste just work in the terminal. I love having options, but why would I want an option to disable that behaviour?
17:40 symbols that are pasted with Ctrl+V in the terminal are Ctrl and V unicode representation. In terminal Shift+Insert is native for pasting and Ctrl+Insert for copying.
:20:00 oh yeah this is going nowhere, no ads on the video file you are accessing. That video file may be a bundle of ads from the 90s, the user clicked that video for it's conetent
you can have both middle-click scroll and paste, use firefox and enable smooth scrolling
Linus summed up the entire YouTube experience perfectly when he opened a video, it played YET ANOTHER AD and he let out a groan.
