I’ve got an old Porter Cable drill press that uses this type of system for infinitely variable speed adjustment via what’s called a Reeves pulley. It’s pretty cool.

They built a metal push belt CVT with 6/7 virtual gears. These transmissions are fragile and are to be avoided.

That metallic belt reminds me the Suzuki Bergman 650! It got a similar thing. Is great, but if/ when it fail, like 2/3 of the bike need to get pull apart to repair it!

Got away with it by not racing, only development patent and testing off season.
