Generative AI has turned coding from a specialized skill into something anyone can do with a simple prompt. A warehouse owner is revolutionizing his shipping software with AI and a creative designer vibe coded her first app with zero technical experience. Computer programmers are doing it too, but a director at Google Cloud AI says vibe coding does not mean the end of serious engineering. As professionals and hobbyists alike are writing code with AI, hiring for junior developers is falling fast and researchers warn companies are making a dangerous short-term bet. -------- More on Bloomberg Television and Markets Like this video? As a software engineer (senior), AI can be a good boost when you are already experienced. If not, it’s a ticking bomb
The technological debt humanity will develop with these amateur hour toys won't come back to bite us in the ass I'm sure...
This reminds me of the content boom in the 2010s with the smartphone. A flood of crap because of the low bar to entry followed by the crap getting filtered out for quality work again.
The Google guy talks like an LLM
3:04 "... excellent question." An AI couldn't have said it better.
Oh, suddenly everyone is smart
THe cost of these AI coding tools is already increasing. Soon a monthly subscription will cost as much as the salary of a dev.
Yup my Grandma vibe coded an app where all her and her friends can elect where in the park to sit.
Tbh, as a software engineer the more complex problem you’re working on the more inaccuracy and less reliable the AI becomes. I’m talking about Claude 4.6 This documentary clearly shows template based solutions that the Claude excel.
The Google rep's hair was vibe styled.
mainstream media coming out with less ludicrous ai pieces, is the bubble popping?
What they don't talk about is the fact that all the people vibe coding have no knowledge stored about how the code works. That is super important, usually a dev might get a notification of a bug and since he knows the code base well he goes ah it is right here. Now we'll just be using AI and say please oh please fix the bug. My job depends on it.
The amount of vibe coded apps that have gone into production that I have gotten to audit is astonishing. Creativity has never been this free/unlimited and that is awesome. On the other hand I would say 80% is completely insecure and fully breachable. - leaked keys... - frontend telling the backend that its authenticated and what role it has... - basic things like sql injections everywhere - it's endless
As a senior software engineer i definitely wouldn’t say its a dream. Who wants to stop writing code and get agents to do it? Writing the code is one of the shortest processes in the whole system. Discussions with the stakeholders, use cases, designs, etc. all that takes longer. A carefully thought out solution doesn’t take very long to code. Also its the fun part. Everything outside of code is not fun for me. No wonder many developers are becoming depressed. Imagine being a party planner but never experiencing the party itself. Thats our reality. We do the boring tasks and never reap the fun in the end
At the start, this guy made it sound like he’s never touched code and then the warehouse guy admits at the very very end that he used to code for a living many years ago and then goes on to say how regular people could absolutely do what he did but any programmer worth their salt knows that that’s a total lie and that his Software development background is the reason he can do all these things and so quickly.
Not one word about how every prompt is losing money currently, and how to get from here, even if ignoring the quality, to where the companies providing the prompts make ... money?
The first things everyone learn in web development is writing code, and actually the last you use in web development, why do you think it’s that way. Writing code has never been the bottleneck.
I use Claude Code daily as a developer with 20+ years of coding experience. It's a great time saving tool. Experience allows me to ask all of the right questions, and understand the reply questions. I have no idea how someone with no experience would do this. At least for now, senior developers are safe, but for how long I'm not sure.
Well, I’ve been learning coding for the last 10 or so weeks and I’ve been enjoying it immensely. The feeling I get when I understand the code more and more is simply beautiful. Coding also clears my mind so well. I feel deeply relaxed after each coding session. Seeing how my app is coming into reality is an extremely satisfying experience. You don’t understand the code and you think you’ll never understand it and all of the sudden you understand it so easily and you start writing your own app. I only use AI to explain the code to me but I don’t let it write the app for me. I just want it to teach me to code because I want to understand what is happening. I recommend to everyone that you start writing code, you won’t regret the experience, I promise.
google engineer out shopping: "i like this clothing artifact, im gonna grab a few more of this artifact"
