We test the strength and reliability of an old Toyota Land Cruiser, Land Rover Discovery and Mercedes ML by running the cars at full throttle for as long as possible. Explore new and used car deals with Carwow: https://bit.ly/Change-Your-Car-21-07 Who builds the strongest engines - Toyota, Land Rover, or Mercedes? Well, to find out, we’re pushing our £2,000 Toyota Land Cruiser, Land Rover Discovery and Mercedes ML to the limit to see which lasts the longest. They’re no longer road-worthy, but which can last the longest when pushed to full throttle? First off, let’s take a closer look at the contenders: Starting with the Discovery 3, it’s powered by a 2.7-litre V6 that produces 190hp and 440Nm. It’s equipped with a 6-speed manual and weighs 2,419kg. It was first released in 2005, we bought it for £1,500, and it currently has 256,000 miles on the clock. Up next is the Mercedes ML. There’s a 2.7-litre inline-5 turbo diesel under the bonnet, and this produces 163hp and 400Nm. It’s equipped with a 5-speed automatic gearbox, weighs around 2,100kg, and was released in 2005. We bought it for £1,800, and it has 140,000 miles on the clock. Finally, we come to the Land Cruiser. It’s powered by a 4.7-litre V8, and this puts down 235hp and 434Nm. It rolls up with a 4-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs 2,260kg. It was originally released in 2002, and although it was originally bought for £5,000, it’s only worth around £2,000 now. To date, it’s run around 282,000 miles. So which will last the longest - Land Rover, Toyota or Mercedes? Drop your guess in the comments!

This seems to be a bit silly. I drove a Land Cruiser in the Middle East for ten years in the 70s/80/s and it never, ever, went wrong. The Land Rover it replaced never went right. The Land Rover nearly killed me because without modern phone technology we were alone in the desert when it broke down (condenser, gearbox, clutch). With the Land Rover we nearly died. Toyota saved me… the end.
No person in the world would include a Landrover in a reliability test other then a brit.
Discovery 3, such an underrated car....
If the mercedes was a manual like the land rover, it was unstopable😂
4:04 no Matt, that is gender fluid leaking out of the car's engine.
It’s a pity that the coolant hose burst on the Discovery because if it hadn’t overheated it would probably have won even more convincingly😛
a land rover surviving is kinda crazy
