Probably could have been avoided if the owner just changed the oil more often. Saving a few quid on oil changes has cost them thousands in engine repairs.

40,000 miles? Plus another 30,000 miles at least! The amount of crap dust & muck on that engine says it’s probably covered 70/80,000 miles maybe more.

I never thought in my 65 years on earth that I’d see such bollocks in the world of automotive engineering. Who ever thought of immersion of rubber in hot oil under stress needs their balls boiled in sulphuric acid.

It's absolutely vital to change oil regularly with these wet belts. I'm not defending the design by any means, but it stands to reason that if you run it through filthy oil your chances of problems are higher.
