Very important note about the price gap here. A company's warranty is not for the 300$ that you paid for the drive, the warranty is for *the drive you bought*. Not the money, *the product*. If the market makes the product more difficult to manufacture, that is not the burden of the consumer YOU OWE a replacement for to bear.

It's important for all of us because you're setting a precedent in each case you pursue in court. What happens to you could happen to anyone and money alone should not be a deciding factor in justice and fairness. That being said, thank you for having the courage to do the things you do.

0:14 I'm sorry, but that big block lettered 'PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL' actually got me laughing, especially regarding the context. It sounds so exasperated to me

That is *strangely* similar to the refund I got for one of their french door fridges after EIGHT technician visits and several fights with their customer support on the phone. I'm a maintenance technician and I knew the issue was unrepairable. They spent way more money than the fridge was worth on their shenanigans before finally deciding to refund it.

And its because of your experiences with Samsung's SSDs, that I've avoided them, personally. I'm running an older Gen 3 Western Digital Black Edition NVME and 2 Lexar NM710 2TB Nvme drives, for my media server/gaming PC (along with a few traditional Seagate and WD HDDs for the media storage). So far (knock on wood), no issues after 6 years on the Western Digital SSD and 2 years on the two Lexar NM710 drives.

I really wonder what the margins are on these drives. Has the people who mine or create the raw materials of these components charging more than they were 2-3 years ago? I bet not.

i had a mobo die whilst it was still under Warranty, and ASUS only wanted to give me about 50% of what I paid for it originally. their logic was that I could buy a new similar mobo for that price, but that the exact ASUS mobo I bought was out of stock. I refused and eventually had to Karen my way all the way up to the regional manager for southern africa of ASUS, before I got the original amount that I paid. never buying ASUS again.

People forget that manufacturing costs didn't go up. Only demand went up. So the price hikes are completely just them saying "who's gonna pay us the most for our stuff?"

My brother bought a 32 GB DDR5 CL28 RAM Kit from Corsair for 100 € off Ebay and one of the sticks died and they replaced it despite him not having an invoice without arguing and the kit going for 400 € right now. Props where they're deserved.

How come u got more then now price is

the fact they decided to refund you the current market value instead of sending u a replacement drive still just shows how bad the market is. they only want to sell to data centers clearly. maybe we need customer discrimination laws now just like worker ones.

I remember years ago going through the warranty process for a 2tb nvme drive. The heatsink was removed in-order to use it in an enclosure that already had a heatsink. Samsung's warranty policy stated that the serial number sticker had to be on the product in-order to get service...guess where the serial number is? On the heatsink. I made them aware that it violated Magnuson-Moss and they then escalated it to their legal team who removed the wording about serial number stickers from the website...they then still shipped back that defective drive which I still have to this day.

They tried to offer me my money back on my 2tb drive when it failed and I pointed out that the replacement cost at Best Buy where I purchased it was double the price and they honored the double price and sent me the replacement cost. It didn’t take much effort on my part other than to call them out on it.
