I BET that a manual trans from a geo metro would fit in that engine bay WITH that little turbo diesel. (the down side is you would have to fabricobble your own CV shafts and shift linkages.) Running a macpherson strut suspension on each side would not be too difficult.

It's why they have been widely used for generations of many disciplines of racing. Plain speed holes, not so much.... Those should only be used on non-structural elements, like body panels--For ventilation, as widely used in rally car history. .

Rare fun story about plane crashes: in preparation for D-Day, the British planned a series of stealth landings way behind enemy lines, using towed wooden gliders packed with troops and gear, including jeeps and motorbikes. The occupying German forces anticipated this - the Allies had used gliders for many recon and insertion missions - and had installed anti-glider measures at significant locations. The Allies photographed these from the air in the preparatios, and identified grids of fence-posts driven into the ground at 10' intervals - their purpose being to deny the gliders a decent landing space. When the British intelligence services showed these photographs to the RAF glider pilots, they responded; "Oh good! We were wondering how we might stop." Sure enough - when time came to land, they lined the gliders up and slid the fuselage between the poles, snapping the wings off the sigle-use aircraft, bleeding off speed. One landing in particular was saved from pitching its entire contents into a river - stopping just feet shy of the bridge they arrived to capture. Sometimes, a crash-landing is just better.

In any airplane a landing you can walk away from is a good one. One where you can use the plane again... is a great one. About 8 years ago, there was a group (20-30) IIRC of King Midgets that attended the Thurs Nite cruise in in High Point. Most had Honda engines and CVT's in them though some were stock. Great concept but they just couldn't hang on until the fuel crisis or there might be a lot more around.

You guys might want to check the load and shock rating on the pillow blocks. They may not be dynamic load friendly over time. If they are cast they may crack. Love your videos guys.
for thin stuff like that, the shop weld guy told me about a 3/8 thick copper block he sticks with inset magnets that is GREAT for stuff just like this, you can run hotter and not need to slow down, waiting for the bead to cool.
