Government EPA laws forced automakers to switch to fast-drying waterborne paint decades ago, and robots don't wet-sand assembly line vehicles. In fact, manufacturers intentionally program a uniform texture into the clear coat because it diffuses light and hides microscopic sheet metal ripples from the stamping factory. Thinking a "TRD" badge means Toyota pulls the truck off the line for a custom hand-polished paint correction is pure delusion. It gets stamped, prepped, and sprayed by the exact same robots on the exact same assembly line as a base SR5

As a master mechanic and long time shop management. Working along side with the collision shop. I’ve seen that before on brand new Toyotas and you swore that’s it’s been fixed before with slight paint imperfections. It takes somewhat of keen eyes and light, even angle. What’s fucked up is the guy next to you at the red light 4 way may see it before the owner does. He’s not wrong for point that out.

All factory paint has orange peel. I was at a Ford dealer not long ago and I looked at one of their new broncos and it actually had runs in the paint. I also remember doing a pre-delivery inspection on a Jaguar many years ago and it had runs in the wheel wells. Of course I had to call for that on the free delivery inspection. I'm sure people don't want their car with curtains or runs in it.
