I also just switched to Linux as a gamer. My gaming PC was the last rig still running Windows, and after my SSD died last week I made the decision to switch. Let's hope I stay.
Not being able to use the highest refresh rate via HDMI is a proprietary rights problem. HDMI forum did not permit AMD to use their highest specs in AMDs open source drivers. But this is resolved now and with the coming Linux kernel (7.2) in 2 month or so, you can use the highest refresh rates and resolutions possible with the latest HDMI version.

I switched to Linux 6 months ago and it has been my best experience with an OS ever. Now its up to the major software developers to have Linux versions of their software, time to put the pressure on them. I tried Linux in the early 2000s and it was not enjoyable, now its easier than using windows.
I would love to see Affinity port its suite to Linux.

I love that more people are giving Linux a shot. It has its shares of problems, but Windows is something I will not use. Linux has been so much faster, and the sacrifices I had to make were worth it.
For adding a network share in dolphin file manager you can right click the title on the left side "Remote" and select "add entry". Now you can point it to the location you want to use! (yes it took me over 2 hours to find that one out XD)
6:53 If you see the little _ in the corner, for me it's usually been a graphical display issue. Usually Ctrl+Alt+F2 will still let you log into root terminal to troubleshoot. Usually you can also ssh into the computer as well. Not a fun problem, but might help someone else in the future

I tried switching to linux 8-10 years ago, I don't remeber exactly. It was not a great experience back then. I finally switched to Linux on my gaming PC last august, and it's wonderful!
In regards to your VST Plugins, if its not just a DaVinci problem but it's that your VSTs only work on Windows take a look at yabridge, which uses wine and some trickery get windows VST2 and VST3 plugins working on Linux. (Sidenote: Some plugins might require an older Wine version, eg. 9.2 otherwise mous-click offsets are register at the wrong position. Though this MIGHT be fixed by now)
Welcome ❤ The best thing is it only gets better from here, most of the sucky parts you mentioned will disappear after a while simply due to experience.
A thing I love about linux - I very seldom use my laptop for travel, and I put linux on it. What I love is that I can let the thing sit unpowered for months and then power it on and everything still works as it did the last time I used it. Then, I can update things when I feel like it and the update patches EVERYTHING all at once. If I have to update Windows it takes all day, with multiple restarts for each one down to Individual software updates. And then every time I launch software in Windows that I haven't used in a while, it asks me to re-download that software to "update" it. So I basically am stuck re-installing every piece of software every time I want to use it on Windows. On linux, update and everything is the latest version. Boom. Done. Maybe a single reboot if on a new kernel.
I too am fully hooked on Gnome because it gets out of my way.
I'm dragging my feet on fully switching my personal pc to linux and just as i was lamenting on it your video came up, this might be a sign, i'm going for it.
I can't imagine using a computer any other way than with Linux. Focused, fast, efficient.
Let hope Blackmagic will soon upgrade Davinci Resolve to Qt 6.11 to enable native Wayland-HDR support allong with a more efficient Vulkan renderer, and also start supporting whatever audio pluging that you need :)
With Fedora, always install the rpmfusion repo! Then install VLC to watch videos. Problem solved.
