The drag link on my 57 Bel Air is similar. There is a cup on either side of the ball, then a spring pushing the cups against the ball of the pitman arm.

I was close to being a fatality in my 84 CJ7. Steering wheel came off in my hands at 55mph and i hit a tree. I was airlifted to the hospital, in a coma for 5 weeks, wheelchair for 2 years. 16 surgeries and ill need more as i get older. I'm still a Jeep guy though and i'm so excited about this build! I'm very glad none of you were hurt

I think you’re missing a spring in that draglink adjustment. I have a Scout 800 and the adjustment is very similar and it has a spring.
