Pastel de Nata (known as egg tarts in the states) is a popular Portuguese pastry that can be found in just about every corner in Lisbon so of course I had to do some research in search of the best! Honestly they’re all delicious (well, most of them), and I think it comes down to preference of how you like your custard and how crunchy and caramelized you like it. Pasteleria Doce Mila (a small pastry shop with a cute little courtyard) had the best ones in my opinion
I loved Fábrica da Nata! They have them coming out fresh all day and night.
Marie Blachère is a chain bakery from France that consistently has the worst bread / pastries around. They’re unfortunately popular (here in France at least), especially in areas where proper bakers have left bc population is too low or making a profit is difficult. Im not surprised the pasteis wasn’t good! So many other good options tho - really makes me want to visit Lisbon ☺️

Yea even though it’s so hyped…they’re right pasteis de Belem is truly the best, their custard is the perfect level of rich and not too sweet and the nata came warm. Them and pastelaria santo Antonio near the castle were actually my two faves.
Sprinkle cinammon on top... even more delicious ❤

Next time you are in Philly, you'd should go to Gilda. They have pasteis de nata and are fabulous.
