A little bummed you didn't mention the distance reduction to 1000 feet for safety and the fact that the cars now reach 340mph in 1000 feet and when they changed from a true 1/4 mile they were only doing 300 to 310 in that distance. Other than that cool video. Top fuel has always been my favorite engineering feats in motorsports. Some more fun facts you didn't mention; Because they put so much fuel in the pistons and so little air, the fuel air mix is very nearly compressed to a complete solid before ignition. The engine runs as close to hydro lock as possible. The flame front in the engine gets over 7000 degrees F. The nitro burns yellow but what you see coming from the exhaust is white because the exhaust is actually burning the atmosphere when it comes out. Each spark plug gets 44 amps every spark. The spark plug is fully consumed during the run, by the end it runs by dieseling from the leftover heat and you can only shut it down by cutting the fuel. Now for the part that shocked me the most. The engine runs close to 9500 rpm at top speed but it only turns 540 times from start to finish. With it being a 4 stroke engine that means they hit up to 340 miles per hour with only 270 combustion cycles in each cylinder.

I genuinely believe that if you were watching a full-noise heads up Top Fuel pass, and the world happened to end in the background, you wouldn't notice.
I like that at a drag race the pit pass is included with the entrance fee. Even at a national event with the biggest names in the sport you get to go in the pits ,stand there and watch them rebuild the car.
You don't know what loud is till you've heard a top fuel car.
Go to a top fuel event. It's like standing next to a rocket launch. Bring ear plugs.
In closing you said to go see them in person. I second that. The visceral experience cannot be fully described, and it cannot be captured in recordings.

The sound they make is ridiculous. You'll plug your ears when they're idling and the shockwave from the two of them just says, "I don't care if your ears are plugged. I'll punch your kidneys."
Being track side at a meet, not even the whole F1 pack going past you together, can beat the feeling you experience from just one pass.
One thing you forgot to mention: seeing these cars in real life is a physical experience. In the stands it still feels like you’re being hit in the chest when they take off. UNREAL!
nitromethane - I have a litre bottle of it on the shelf (50% in methanol). its a common additive in model aircraft fuels. no particular handling restrictions

I saw the NHRA sponsored race at Maryland International Raceway. It was a well put together show - with a sound system you could actually understand and big screen showing you the finish line. Highly recommend you find an NHRA race near you. One of the issues with older races is that engines blow up... oil down the track... and you have to stop the race while they clean. This was not an issue at an NHRA national event. One car races, the next cars are getting ready. No big breaks in the action.
The way Drag cars treat physics as just a suggestion is remarkable, they wipe their shoes on it as they go down the drag strip....its staggering!
