all that ram sitting in boxes waiting for a data center that will never be built
who knew soldering ram to the board was anti-theft protection for the future
24$!? That’s insane!
Terminate AI data centers before they terminate us.
"The Linux Colonel" I see what you did there :D
Luckily, Linux works on the old hardware.
I'm so happy that my 10+ years old Linux PC is still alive and kicking. I don't wanna have to mortgage my house to buy a new one.
So not linux but one configuration of a framework laptop.
If they told me I was only getting half the memory for the same price, I would tell them to ram it.
This comparison is not APPLES to APPLES.
I want the "macbook killer" linux laptop but I don't like that it costs as much as a macbook 😂
At least you can repair a framework
The thing is that Linux runs perfectly fine on a toaster. So why would I buy an overpriced laptop that can't even toast my bread without running furmark for an hour?!
I'm from the future. The AI bubble popped so hard and they built so many fabs we didn't know about that RAM prices fell. We now have RAM in everything. Want a sandwich? You get a stick 32 gb with that. Buying soap? That's another 64 gb just to make sure the box stays square. A hotdog? That's some ram to make sure the dog doesn't sag. We didn't know that a RAM-free world was better......but it was. Fear the future, friend. It's crunchy.
Here in the UK you can get a decently spec'd refurb'd laptop for around £200. Just wipe Microslop and install your favourite Linux distro and job's a good un. Some resellers even offer Linux pre-installed. It tends to Linux Mint from what I've seen but that's a nice easy to use distro for those who aren't techy. Or you can simply install your favourite distro on top.
damn I remember back in the day intel was like the best of the best.....oh how far they've fallen
3:08 I'd pay $50 more just for having the power button on the front side.
"[Insert any word] is more expensive than Apple" is a phrase i never thought I'd see or hear. Meteors, earthquakes, flaming hail, i expect a full apocalypse now.
0:48 You're forgetting that the AMD laptop is useful and the MacBook only runs monthly pay Adobe apps
why do you need a new laptop? the beauty of Linux is that it runs perfectly well on 15 year old Thinkpad that cost like $30
