This week on Fully Ramblomatic, Yahtzee reviewed Splatoon Raiders. Check out our new Post Ramblomatic podcast, where Yahtzee goes deeper on each game he reviews alongside another member of Second Wind -- https://www.patreon.com/SecondWindGroup Second Wind Merch: https://shop.secondwindgroup.com/

Helicopter crashing in the opening cutscene, a military superpower fighting a vastly inferior local faction- this is the closest we will get to another old Call of Duty review on this channel
I'm just surprised it took the squid people game four entries to have a fishing minigame, if I'm being honest
In November of 2028 he's gonna review Deltarune and be very smug at us for how much better he is at waiting for a full game to be done
Honestly, a more positive review from Yahtzee than I was expecting for this game
Something to note about the Salmonids is that despite appearances they're actually one of the _more_ technologically advanced civilisations in the setting, they just don't care much for making their tech look _nice._ Note that one of their later units is a self-propelled flying machine that can both teleport in reinforcements and shield said reinforcements while they're under it. In short, they're Warhammer 40K Orks in fish form. Also, the timer in Raid missions is given a story justification (the very first time you enter one, in fact): The fog that's blocking off access to the islands is present in them, and the crew doesn't want to expose themselves to it for too long (might have something to do with the fact that inklings and octolings dissolve in water, I'm not sure if it's mentioned).
A splatoon game where you're objectively the bad guys
Post Ramblomatic is gonna be a fun one.
All I've heard about this particular Splatoon title is some people getting feral about that one cutscene with Shiver.
To be fair, the Salmonids were established in the second game to be a literal manifestation of the apocalypse, meant to tear civilization to the ground and drag all of Squidanity back into the primordial sea, a process that has already played out at least once. So instead of imperialism, we champion capitalism by not only forestalling the end times, but monetizing them as well.
Splatoon of Duty: Modern Squidhair
I'm glad video games this year continue the ongoing PSA about how dangerous helicopters are. Bond, then this, then who knows what.
I'll raise that Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is in contention for most imperialistic Nintendo game, given how its story (which can only be found in the manual) is: "Pound anything that gets in DK's way as he conquers the kingdoms and becomes the king of the jungle lands!!!". It certainly isn't much, but it suggests that conquest for conquest's sake is the only goal. (If you played the Wii version, though, you'd find that they changed the story so that the bosses were the conquerors and DK is a freedom fighter- I guess they must have realized that casting the protagonist in such an unsympathetic light was a bad idea for this franchise)
The levelling slowing down post-game is definitely intentional, the player caps out at level 50 but the enemies keep going up and up beyond that. While you can rely on the basic levelling up to see you through to the credits, from there, the point becomes that you HAVE to start investing actual thought and care into your weapons and gadgets and the various perks you can equip etc to make up for how totally "technically under-levelled" you are. (Sadly it's still a bit of a grind-fest to get the materials you need to do all that though as you start to reach maximum efficiency on everything, so you gotta be a sicko who's into everything the game is going for to enjoy it all the same).
To be fair I do think the enemies are a bit fishy.
4:20 - "You know what? Grinding gets a bad rep" Yes Yahtzee, by you!
2:59 I don't know if I'm grateful or disappointed that Squid Yahtzee doesn't have any human features and we didn't get a repeat of the Lizard Yahtzee situation
The thing is at 2:13 Splatoon lore is actually somewhat nuanced and developed, so it's possible (?) this is intentional
Japan: "Hear me out: Squid X Girl" Nintendo: "I gotcha."
I don't know why, this made the brain vaguely question "Would a Splatoon Painkiller work?".
Can't believe that, for years, I listened to the opinions of a man who hates peach rings
