In Canada, unless you are actively bleeding or unconscious good luck waiting 4+ hours in the ER. So many stories of people going to the ER and getting told to wait or go home, when they have a serious issue and it gets worse when it could have been prevented. On the more extreme end, some people have even died because they weren’t admitted into the ER.

"Flail chest" for anyone wondering is where a rib (or multiple rib) breaks in two places and so you have a floating peice of bone in your chest. As you can imagine, a free moving and probably sharp bone fragment right next to constantly moving lungs is a recipe for disaster. Flail chest can very easily become fatal fast.

“He can’t breathe” gets you into an ER quick. Spent a night in January because my BP was crazy high. Bleeders and non breathers go first outside the category of the super emergencies

Triage in every er in my state is a joke. They need to send half the people home and the other half that are dying they ignore.

In 1989, a VA hospital had 14 year old Candy Stripers running the ER reception desk...referrals, calls and priorities were set as routine.... Boy, has the VA changed....
