If you were present at Google Next 26, you would realize the play for Google is not about leading frontier models but rather building the scalable and secure business infrastructures to support AI as well as building the best business focused ai models. They are possibly making more revenue reselling other models within GCP then they are with Gemini.
Google search also became worse. Their search results are now dominated by sponsored results.
This really reminds me of Kodak. They actually invented the digital camera, yet that very innovation was their downfall of film camera empire

Google are too busy focusing on censorship and fumbling Gemini.
Google rents out their most powerful nvidia based data centers to openai and anthropic, and they use their inhouse built hardware to run their gemini models. They also have to split this limited inference capacity with nano banana and veo platforms, and they consume probably 10x more compute than the llm (the same reason that openAI shut down sora). But they cant shut down nano banana and veo because these are googles only in house AI products that are making any money. So they have intentionally limited what their llms are capable of so they can run them on their limited compute capacity.
Google's CEO is an unimaginative middle manager who's way out of his depth.
One thing google has going for it is massive data training sets. Flash being basically free unlimited is an insane amount of training data.
I have a Google paid plan, $20/mo. They actually just upped my cloud storage to 5TB a few months ago, and I have to admit, that huge cloud storage is why I'm staying with them .
One more thing people should know, that competitors pivoted to AI coding while Gemini absolutely fumbled the bag. Their tools were nowhere near as good, and the userbase simply isn't there to give them real-world feedback. OpenAI and Anthropic have a massive data of millions of devs correcting their models daily, and without that feedback loop, Google is permanently stuck playing catch-up. Hence the Gemini 3.5 pro delays that keeps coming out "THE NEXT MONTH"
Ironically Google AI search today is just amazing. No more having to flit around a bunch of search results trying to extract the info I’m looking for - now it just produces a 90% correct answer from the start
I don’t Google cares if it has the best or even close to the best AI on the planet. Its business caters to the core 95% of the population planet Earth. It only matters to the computer nerds, researchers, scientiats, and tech bloggers. Gemini works well as it is. Google has all the other applications that people need and use. Even if they had the best AI on the planet, it would not increase their core business.
