Don’t worry about accents, every region/ province has their own accent or way of saying things…..you totally fit in! ❤️
The people saying overly negative things about Canada are what we call Maple Maga...they are not a happy bunch of people...just ignore them. Canada is an awesome place to live and WELCOME.

Hi both, please don't feel you have to change your vocab or yourself. Canada is FULL of accents, languages etc. It doesn't matter. I've lived in Victoria my entire life and interchangeably use bathroom or washroom, cheque or bill. You do you! :) I don't know what I could offer, but if you or your family need anything, I'm happy to help!

Hi Jen X and spouse. I want to encourage you about your decision. My wife is Canadian and I met her in college 37 years ago in Nebraska. We were married 2 years later and after graduating college lived in the states for another 7.5 years before moving back to her home town in Northern BC. I have been so blessed to live in this great country. I became a naturalized citizen in 2010 and it was the proudest day of my life apart from my wedding day. The thing that I love the most about Canada is the people. Kindness is almost ubiquitous wherever you go and whoever you meet, with very few exceptions. The community that exists here is like no other place in the world. I have so many examples I could share but, I will only share one now. Shortly after moving here, my brother in laws house burnt down and the entire community came together and donated personal items for a community auction and raised enough money in one day to purchase a replacement double wide prefab home. Then many of the same people helped get the modular home moved onto the site and set up after helping clear the burnt house out of the way. All the labor was donated by the people. We all take care of each other in small town Canada. I haven't locked my doors where I live since moving here and have never had anything stolen. I do lock my car when I go to town though just to be on the safe side. I lived the first 35 years of my life in the states but never experienced community the way it exists in Canada. It's just different in a good way. Good luck with all your exciting plans and welcome to Canada!

I am Canadian, have lived here all my life, have a PhD in a science-based discipline, and have extensive job experience in Canada. Based on the points system, I don't have enough points to immigrate to my own country. Whenever people (Americans especially, sadly...) are so flippant about "oh I'll just move to Canada", my love no you will not! In most cases, anything you think makes you "special" (exception: heathcare degrees) actually doesn't. There are plenty of Canadians with that same degree combination, that same experience, some of whom are also looking for jobs. It's really...challenging...making people see that they're not as special as they think they are. If you can't get here on an accelerated immigration program (targeting specific fields in very high demand), the likelihood of someone being able to immigrate here is so, so slim.
