Filipino here. I regretted my parents for years for lying to us about having a dishwasher. My cousins and I joke about calling it a drying rack for a good year in middle school. It's ridiculous that my parents never used it. Family of 8 now with me being the 2nd oldest, so that made me head of dishwashing.... I still have animosity about my parents wanting to live in America but not letting themselves to use the luxury they got themselves. Now my family is too damn lazy to do any dishes and I'm the only one that knows how to use the dishwasher and get an actually "clean table wear" fighting over unclean dishes and hygiene was a HUGE struggle in the house. We live in a not so nice area but it's not terrible in california, I have no patience for others that don't use things that were built to make your life easier and especially clean! :(

In asia there is a common stigma about using dishwasher and washing machine or not drying your clothes in sunlight. People will get extremely diagusted of they found out machine did the dishes and they see it not thoroughly enough. Also sundrying is seen as norm. People will not wear a cloth becase it was not dried " properly" in the sun.

As a person that lives in a Chinese household, yes, we wash our dishes with our hands, and we store our pots and pans in the dishwasher, never used it once for washing.

During the pandemic, our dishwasher broke, mum didn't want to pay to get it fixed or buy a new one so she got us to wash by hand. To this day I forget it's still there
