We are not bitter about it. He has both nationalities in his blood. He was picked up very young, but then could see which country was going to do better, and is allowed to choose as an adult. We can all be adult about this .

It works both ways though. Ireland dismissed Roberto Lopes as apparently he wasn't good enough, but he was able to go further in the world cup not playing for Ireland.

It happens.. Micheal Olise Jamal Musiala Antion Semenyo ..even Haaland.. Born in England...some of them played for England up to U21 then chose to represent nations of parents or grandparents In the world cup France ,England and Belgium had the most players at the world cup..born and grew up in that nation..but represented a different nation.. Its just how things are.

If a player was born in Ireland to English parents and chose to play with Ireland would that be a betrayal of England .He has lived in England , gone to English schools , got English friends, speaks with an English accent. His strongest allegiance should be to the country where he grew up.This idea of playing for a country where a player's parents , grandparents were from or born should stop .Otherwise it's like countries trying to steal other countries players on a technicality based upon the origin of players parents .

As someone from a country with a lot of emigrants that has lots of people of itβs origin choose to not play for our national team, instead picking the country they were born in, I donβt hold it against any of them and neither should anyone hold it against rice. Like almost every player, heβs looking for a team where he will show his skill and definitely achieve more than he could ever do with Ireland. He just helped them break a long wc medal drought and is considered one of the best midfielders in the world currently. Would people think of him that way if he played for Ireland, and barely participated in any international competitions?

Ryan Giggs went the other way. Played for England under 21s and then went to play for wales. π΄σ §σ ’σ ·σ ¬σ ³σ Ώ given the ludicrous pressure England players face, I am not surprised when they pick another nation.

You know, two things can be true. Heβs English, English parents and grandparents, born in England. He has Irish grandparents, but he wasnβt born there. So being eligible for both, he played for both, then played exclusively for England when he had to make the choice. If he was never going to get in the first team with England, he would have continued to play for Ireland. It is what it is, Iβm sure heβs still just as proud of his Irish heritage as an Englishman. Iβm English but I have Irish, Scottish and Welsh heritage. Weβre not the same countries we were 500 years ago and we are a mixed population.

The rules are that a player can make up to three senior appearances prior to changing nationality. Rice had three senior caps for Ireland when this situation happened. The rules are a joke, the player should be allowed to change once a single senior appearance has been make.
