I signed up with Base over a year ago when they were just starting out. I have 9,000 watts of solar on the roof (in north Texas), and I have had a negative electric bill every month for the past 18 months!! Absolutely a no brainer for me. My agreement allows me to cancel at any time.
I work in Solar, I run across base all the time it is not a good deal for the customer. They only get access to 10% of the battery. They don’t get a 40 kWh battery.
No ownership not paying. Enough with the dirty subscriptions.
This is a 14 year lease with a UCC lien on the house that can cause problems at sale or refinancing. It’s not a mortgage, so it shouldn’t be a problem. The problem arises should Base Power sell the leases to a third party (common in US) to raise cash and it becomes a f’ing nightmare on finding the lien holder.

$19/mo is almost nothing, but since you don't own it, that price can (and will) rise. An increase you don't control. We have seen how the subscription model plays out long term.
You've got to read the fine print. If the battery isn't yours, they surely are up to something.
I live in Texas and looked into getting Base, but read reviews from users about their grid down experiences. This works great until the grid goes down and Base drains your battery providing other users with electricity. Some said they would randomly check the battery state of charge and find it at 20 to 50 percent. Not a good situation to be in if storms are predicted. All the negative reviews said their situations happened after the initial "honeymoon phase" after install. These may have been growing pains of the company, but remember, no power company is in business for "your" benefit.
I would stay far away from this type of arrangement. Spend a little extra to own and have control over your batteries.
I find this a bit infuriating, if this is clearly an economical way of flattening the hump, why on earth are the energy companies not doing it at scale?
In Australia selling power back to the grid is a complete WOFTAM. Feed-in tariff rates are generally *FAR* too low. We get just 1c/kWh! 🤣 Best to just *USE* the power yourself, or feed it to your own battery or EV. Even better is to get onto a 0c/kWh window tariff and charge the battery in that time period 💡
If you agree to be in a VPP you should get the battery for free. Utility companies need to jump on this before someone else does it, they are going to lose out to a middle man. In Texas were some areas have a CoOp this should be standard.
I have solar and I'm paying $640 a year to "fuel" charge two large battery pack EV's, power my home and pool and that includes PG&E's BS $10 a month fee just for existing. Base's fee for the year would cost me $240 + $120 PG&E fee a year + X dollars for the power you'd be using from your local power company and that's not including any taxes and not including the mess that can come from renting something like this = NO THANKS!
Shame it’s not available in California our peek rate is now $0.54 a kWh it’s out of control

Great headline, but without details about kWh capacity the price is meaningless. Even when the capacity is mentioned, the total cost over time is the important metric. Prices per kWh capacity are coming down. A lease has to be evaluated using traditional lease/buy financial analysis.
V2G is the future. This is just an intermediate step.
Never like these kind of deal..companies merge or get bought over. Prefer own it outright.
