The limit is no longer your audio recorder, it's the earth itself. Once a sound passes the 194dB level it transforms into something completely different. Air compresses and expands to such an extreme that you're effectively create mini-vacuums or space-like voids that are surrounded by such a density of air that it forms a shockwave that obliterates anything in it's path. This is why rocket launches crackle, it's the air clipping because it's so impressively loud.
So if something makes a sound that's over 194dB is it effectively silent? "too loud to hear"? Or is it just effectively reduced to a sonic boom?
I’m skeptical about the 1500 dB rating given that the energy required to produce it is greater than the binding gravitational energy of earth. Just being able to record the sound is kinda moot if it gets reduced to quarks in the process
He completely forgot to explain how db work. I can't explain it very well, it's confusing. No, a 240db atomic bomb sound doesn't have 4x the energy of conversation it actually has 1 quintillion times the energy. It's because decibels are multiplicative and not additive. They scale logarithmically and not linearly. Every 10db higher is 10x the energy of the previous 10db. So 20db has 10x the energy of 10db and 30db has 100x the energy of 10db

That's partly why atomic explosions cause such bizarre atmospheric effects, like dropping all the moisture out of the air as dense rain which falls down the side of the stem. Making it look like the annulus of a mushroom. Or the Wilson cloud formed behind the shock front at altitude, or the ice crystals formed above the hot vortex ring.

It's not often that you can _see_ sound, but large explosions make that possible. High speed video has caught quite a few shock waves in motion. There are several episodes of Mythbusters where you can see the expanding bubble around the boom.
Decibels are a logarithmic scale. I couldn’t find formulas to rigorously do the math, but 1500 decibels is likely “loud” enough to completely obliterate the entire planet. If 240 decibels is a nuke, and I’ve seen estimations that the asteroid impact that killed the dinosaurs was around 320 decibels, 1500 decibels is mindbogglingly powerful. Some sources mention that the pressure required for something like 1500 decibels would be enough to form a black hole at the wave crests.

The confusion between dB and dB(A) is very strong here. Also, that audio interface has a dynamic range of 137dB on its inputs, not 1500dB. And even that doesn't mean that it can record sound up to a loudness of 137dB(A).

Sonic booms from a fighter jet also exceed 200db. The sound will reach your ears with around 110db. The only reason a microphone can pick up louder sounds is because its just a vibration.
So why buy the fancy box if it’s impossible to use for this? 🤔 is it to use for something else but included in a video as a tax write off?

This is related to me and has caused problems in my life so guys please don't pressure someone if you don't know their life situation. I watched many videos on my hobbies because I can't afford them.
