He should have said "They weren't at the level I'd expect from a teenager, no ability to do advanced maths like trigonometry, couldn't name more than a dozen elements on the periodic table, couldn't even order a coffee in French." Which is true if he's describing an 8 year old, that's not the level you'd expect from a teenager.
