Me and my neighbor did install Such mesh network but we are in a rural area. It's a total of six farmers and 10 relatives swing total 16 houses. We use it for snow plowing coordination. Security or simply talking to each other without going somewhere.

With Columba Android users can be relays to the net. This is amazing. Even an old phone up on a post can be a Bluetooth relay.
Great work and content! I think mass adoption will have to wait until we can solve three main issues: 1. Enough bandwidth for high-quality voice calls. 2. An easy way to connect phones without requiring an external device. 3. Enough bandwidth for decent-quality video calls and light use of regular internet access. The required bandwidth is probably somewhere around 5–10 Mbit/s, with latency below roughly 400 ms between the two endpoints. I think many of these low-frequency communication technologies are excellent for achieving very large coverage areas. However, as traffic increases, the main bottleneck would probably become the backbone communication between nodes, unless that traffic is carried over an already established Ethernet-based network. 5 GHz, and probably 6 GHz, point-to-point radio links can provide a lot of bandwidth over fairly long distances with a clear line of sight. Being able to build out this kind of wireless backbone network would therefore be important in larger areas where significantly more traffic needs to be handled.
