This week, we bring home something I never thought I’d get my hands on… a Challenger 1! We head down to Kent early in the morning, where Crouch Recovery bring in one of their biggest recovery trucks and trailers to help us load it up. But there’s one problem — we want to keep the whole thing completely secret until the big reveal. So once it’s loaded, we cover the Challenger up and make the journey home without anyone finding out what we’re carrying! Back at the farm, it’s finally time to see what we’ve actually got. We check it over, attempt to get it running and then start testing some of the Challenger’s systems — including bringing the turret and gun back online. This is without doubt one of the most incredible vehicles we’ve ever had on the channel. In 1984 my dad, as a RE diver had to help rescue a Challenger 1 that ended up going for swim on the Munster ranges. While doing so, and can't remember how now, but the turret swung round with the barrel hitting one of my dad's colleagues, knocking him out and sending him into the water - do remember being told he was ok but was sent to hospital. The tank was thereafter called HMS Challenger.

As a Class One driver I very much appreciate the skill of the driver, reversing on his “Blind” side and not damaging any thing!! I also used to be a Chieftain Tank Driver!!!
