Interesting! Just two weeks ago I went to the optometrist, at Kaiser Northern Calif, because my vision had become blurry and fuzzy. I was having real difficulty seeing clearly. The optometrist there gave me a series of tests, that took about 10 minutes. She said that my vision had deteriorated greatly since my last visit. She sent me to be fitted for glasses. I was given some trial contact lens and was told to buy a pair of glasses. As I left the office she said to me, almost as an after thought, you probably will not be able to pass your next DMV eye test. I put the contact lens on for a few days and my vision actually got WORSE! I then tried the glasses that were delivered to me. My vision was all messed up!! I made an appointment to see another local eye specialist. He gave me a MUCH more thorough eye examination than I received at Kaiser. As it turns out I have cataracts that will not allow clear vision. Also the eye lens themselves are clouded over. Surgery is the only thing that will fix my vision. Kaiser knows damn well glasses would have never improved my vision but they have a huge selection of expensive eye glasses to sell the unknowing patient. GET A SECOND OPINION PEOPLE!
I'm 68 and reading this through a $2 pair of Chinese glasses.
This is why competition is a consumer's best friend, but monopolies are nightmares.
And this is why my prescription glasses went from $90 to $250 in 11 years. In this one case, I'm glad China's going to take this corporation down.

I bought a spectacle repair kit from China for less than $20. It has hundreds of spare parts, arms, bridges, frames, screws, pads, miscellaneous fittings etc. I have successfully repaired rather than replaced my three pairs of glasses. Probably saved around $600.
This is why I called BS on European crackdown on western companies because in reality they’re only trying to protect their own monopoly

The monopoly is not that old. Prices were very cheap back in the 1990’s before Luxotica went vertical and bought most of the market shares. Good to see China breaking the monopolist.
I live in Japan and usually paid 3000 yen ($19 US) for reading glasses. I bought a pair of Chinese-made glasses for 110 yen ($0.63 US) that are just as good optically and just as durable, not cheaply made at all. I was astounded at the difference in price for glasses of basically the same quality.
Without China, salary classes will live in dirty pitfalls forever.
