There's also the "Bradford licence". Same as a regular licence but covers an entire family.

Grew up driving a manual, finally switched to automatic because I was tired of stop-and-go traffic.

As a New Zealander we have the same process. But once you hold you automatic licence for a year you gain a manual licence. Then if you weren't raised on a farm. You crash and never try to drive a manual car ever again.

I used to have this attitude toward automatics. But so many people are caught in stop and go traffic for like 2 hours just going to work. Dont get me wrong, nothing is more fun than driving down highway 1 in a manual. But for every day driving theres nothing wrong with an automatic.

Automatic liscence are really good for disabled or those with learning difficulties. That’s the use case I see for this liscence in the UK.

The general consensus here is if you have an auto license you can’t really drive.

It stems back to fuel consumption. In the early days, an automatic transmission consumed more fuel than a manual.

My first car didn't have synchromesh in first and second, requiring the driver to double-declutch in those gears. Very satisfying when done properly.
