I think it is unfair to expect Chiefs to play an open, expansive game against a team like Sundowns, particularly given Sundowns’ quality and ability to punish teams in transition. Sometimes football is about recognising the strength of your opponent and setting up accordingly. Junior Khanye and others may criticise the style, but they should also acknowledge when a tactical plan works. Chiefs were disciplined, organised and difficult to break down, and the game plan largely achieved what it was intended to achieve. You cannot demand attractive football at the expense of tactical intelligence.
